Cornell Pad
The Cornell Note-Taking system can be used during lessons, when reviewing material after class and as an effective revision aid. It is an internationally recognised and widely used method that supports active learning and deeper understanding.
This structured format encourages students to remain mentally engaged by using pre assigned sections for Abbreviated Notes, Questions and Summary. These headings guide students to organise information clearly, identify key ideas and reflect on what they have learned. The layout also supports dual coding by combining written notes with diagrams, symbols or visual cues where appropriate.
By using the Cornell system, students are required to interact with the source material rather than copying it passively. They make deliberate decisions about what information is most important, record key points in their own words and summarise learning in a meaningful way. This process helps improve understanding, retention and recall, making it a valuable tool for both ongoing study and revision.
